The Glossary Workshop 1.0
The glossary workshop creates glossaries that may be viewed, printed,
or used by other worskhops such as the reading workshop. The number of fields
in the glossary is determined by the OWLS preferences
for the glossary workshop.
To create a glossary:
- Enter a title for the glossary. This will be displayed at the
top of the glossary.
- Enter a file name for the glossary. This will give it a unique
name to keep it separate from other files. (Recommendation: Stay with small
letters and don't put spaces in the file name.)
- Optionally, enter a comment or line of text to be displayed
between the title and the actual glossary itself. For example, "This
glossary is for dialogue two of lesson three."
- On each line of the available fields enter the word or sentence
you wish to have displayed in in that field of the glossary. Don't worry if
the line wraps in your browser. Only by hitting the "enter" or "return"
keys will OWLS recognize the beginning of a new entry. Don't leave a blank
line at the end or this will possibly create a blank entry in the glossary.
- Enter the password in the bottom field and then press "Create
New Page"
To delete a glossary:
- A list of currently available glossaries is displayed to the
right in the workshop.
- For each exercise you wish to delete, click in the check box
next to the appropriate file.
- Enter the password in the bottom field and then press "Delete
Page"
To edit a glossary:
- A list of currently available glossaries is displayed to the
right in the workshop.
- Click on the "Edit" button next to the file you wish
to edit.
- Edit the glossary and see the instructions above for more.
Things to watch out for:
- Make sure you have an equal number of lines in the fields and
that they match up.
- Make sure you don't have any blank lines at the end of your
fields.
- The number of fields is global to all glossaries and is set
by the preferences.
- Try pasting in groups of words from a document for better control
when the glossary is large.
- There is optional conversion of syllable-final pinyin tone
numbers to the appropriate unicode character. This is turned on in the preferences
and works only in the field labelled "pinyin"
